TEST EVERY VOICE

Matthew 16:13-18 (NKJV) When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

When Peter answered this question that Jesus asked, he answered by a revelation from Almighty God.  Jesus told Peter that what he just said was not man-revealed, but God-revealed.  Many times in our lives, we are seeking an answer for some question we might have.  We go here and there, and ask many people.  In no way am I saying this is wrong, because as the Scripture states, in the multitude of counsel there is wisdom.

But there are times that we need to hear from God, and God, our dear Father, speaks in many ways.  He might speak to us from His Word, the Bible.  He might speak through the inner voice, or the inner witness.  He might choose to have someone say something to us that answers our question, or He may even use nature.  But whatever way we believe God is answering us, I have found that we need to make sure that it lines up with the Bible.

The scripture tells us to test every voice that we might hear.  Too many have thought that they have received a word from a dream or vision, and it has messed up their lives.  Others have received so-called “words” from people and put all of their trust in that word.  No my brothers and sisters.  We need to make sure that whatever voice we hear lines up with the Bible.  If it does not, then we need to be mature enough to leave it alone.

God does not want us confused.  Remember that the Spirit and the Word must line up, and when they do, then that will be the confirmation that it is ok to follow that leading.

CONFESSION:  I choose, this day, to follow God my Father, and not every voice.  I believe the Bible is God’s number one voice to me.  If God said it, then that settles it.
