ENCOURAGE YOURSELF

1 Samuel 30:6 (NKJV) Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

Have you ever felt like that?  Maybe you do right now.  It feels like everybody is against you.  It feels like nobody cares and no one would even listen.  Can you picture David here?  He had done so much for this group of people, and now there is a war and their children and wives have been taken captive, and the first thing that they want to do is stone David.

We can feel this way at times.  “I have done so much, and I have gone out of my way to help them, and all I get in return is this abuse.  I have tried my best to help and they took it all wrong, and now they are all mad at me.”  You see, we are all going to have days like this, when people take us wrong, or we know we gave it our best but it just was not good enough.  So what are we to do?  I say, do what David did!  He strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

The King James Version says that he “encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”  There are times when no one else is there to encourage us, and we need to just do it ourselves.  You might ask, “How do I do that?”  Just start loving on your Heavenly Father.  Worship Him, and start counting all your blessings.  Think of His goodness, and see how your attitude will affect your situation.

It is not always easy to get yourself going, but when that dam breaks, the water is going to flow, and sometimes it will flow stronger than it did before.  So today, if everyone has let you down, remember that God has not, and He wants to encourage and strengthen you.  Give Him a chance, and watch what happens!

CONFESSION: Today, no matter what is coming against me and no matter what is going on around me, I will encourage myself in the Lord.  I will put Him first, and not listen to all the voices around me, or even to my own mind.  What my father says is truth.  Everything else that would try to bring me down is a lie.
