JESUS, OUR UMPIRE

Job 9:32-33 (AMP) For [God] is not a [mere] man, as I am, that I should answer Him, that we should come together in court.  33 There is no umpire between us, who might lay his hand upon us both, [would that there were!]

Here we see an Old Testament man crying out for a mediator (one who could approach God on his behalf) but he could not find one.  What a sad way to live.  You have a hunger and love for God, but because of your sins there is no way that you could come near to Him.

The book of Job is known to be one of the earliest books of the Bible.  It might even be pre-law, and yet Job brought sacrifices for his children and family.  So what am I getting at by saying this?  This Old Testament saint had no umpire: no one to tell him the score, to hold his hand and God’s hand, and work out the problems of man’s fall.

But today, we have Jesus!  Jesus is our Mediator!  He’s our Umpire!  He tells us the score, and He says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”  Because of Jesus, I am forgiven, accepted, loved, and restored.  I am on the winning team, and in Him, I am heaven-bound!

When Jesus went to the cross and rose on the third day, He restored us and washed away all of our sins.  This great salvation is not about us.  It is about Jesus and all that He did for us.  So not only do we have an umpire today, the Umpire is our brother!  He is going to make sure everything is done fairly, and He will help us even when we mess up.

So do not fret today.  Look to Jesus and believe!  Look to Jesus and receive!  He is the One who has done it all for you, and He wants you to win in your course of life.  Remember what it says in Romans 8:31, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”  So we can boldly say today, God is for me!  Jesus is my Mediator!

Confession:  Jesus is my Mediator!  Today, I have a man, Christ Jesus, sitting at the right hand of God on my behalf.  Today, I am accepted, forgiven, and loved.  Wow!  Life is good!
