TIME TO PRAY

1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NKJV) Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

God wants us to pray, not just for those we agree with, but for all people, and especially those in authority. We need to take time today, and every day, to pray for our president and those in political office.  We need to pray for those who are over us in other areas as well.

We need to pray for our pastors and our bosses.  This scripture says to pray for all men, so I see this as including every person that the Lord puts on our hearts.  One thing that I have found out is if we would take a few minutes and ask God our Father if there is any specific person that might have a need today, He will show us.

Go ahead and try it.  Just say something like this, “Father, I come before you today and ask you for direction in my prayers.  Is there anyone specifically that is going through something or that you know can use my prayers right now?  Amen.”

Now take a few moments and be still and listen to that still small voice, and as a name comes to your mind or a picture of a person, go ahead and pray for them.  That is truly being led by the Spirit.  That is praying in the Spirit.  God wants us to pray for all people.  God knows when someone is going through something, so how much more effective would our prayer life be with just a little waiting and a little listening?

Confession: Today, I am not going to just rush into prayer.  I am going to take a couple minutes and see if God, my Father, has someone specific for me to pray for.  When He shows me someone, I will be obedient and pray for them.
