2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 (NKJV) Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition.
Christians back in the church at Thessalonica were wondering, just like we are, when was Jesus going to return. Paul gives some great instruction in His two letters to this church, that the day had not come, and that we need to not be shaken, but continue to watch for the signs of the times, and be busy doing the work of the Lord.
You see, we can get so caught up with end-time prophecy that we can forget that there is a lost world out there that needs Jesus. Jesus even told His disciples not to spend all their time wondering when He would set up His kingdom, but to be about doing the work of the kingdom. Now, I am not saying that we should not have expectancy for His return. What I am saying is that no man knows the day or hour, so we might as well stay busy bringing in the biggest harvest that we can.
I, for one, love end-time prophecy. But for me just to sit home and keep looking out the window, wondering when He will return, would do me no good, and it could even hider me from being effective for the kingdom.
I once heard a person say, “Live your life as if Jesus will return at any moment, yet like He will not return in your lifetime.” In other words, stay busy and live a life that pleases Him. Before you know it, it will be time to go home, be it in the rapture or by death. Either way, it is going to be a great day! So rejoice! The King is coming, and soon, yes very soon, we will be going to live with Him forever!
CONFESSION: Jesus is coming back soon, and I want to be ready for His return. The best way for me to do this is to have my hand to the plow working for Him.
