PURE IN HEART

Matthew 5:8 (NKJV) Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Matthew 5:8 (AMP) Blessed (happy, enviably fortunate, and spiritually prosperous — possessing the happiness produced by the experience of God’s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His grace, regardless of their outward conditions) are the pure in heart, for they shall see God!

The Greek word for “pure” has a number of interesting facets. It was used for dirty clothes that had been washed clean.  It was used to describe grain and flour that had been carefully sifted, or cleansed of all impurities.  It was used when describing milk or wine that had not been mixed with any other liquid.  It was not diluted or watered down.  It was pure.

So this beatitude could be translated, “Blessed is the man who is genuine in heart, who is authentic, who is not a phony, and who is real, because such a man will see God.”  Now what does that mean?  It does not mean that one is perfect.  It means one is pure.  It means that we take the mask off, we quit being phony, we are real with God and ourselves, and we quit pretending to be the person we are not.  It means we become honest with God, we become honest with ourselves, we become honest with each other.  It means we strive to be “pure in heart.”

Remember this has all been given to us because of the finished work of Jesus on the cross.

Ephesians 1:4-7 says, “Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”

So today, be you, and be a blessing to others.  Do not try to be someone that you are not.  Let God your Father do a work within you, and let Him use your personality for His honor and glory!

Confession:  I am me!  I am not going to try to be anyone else, just me.  I am going to let my Father work on me to be pure in heart and a blessing to whoever I come in contact with.
