THE CARNAL MIND, THE SPIRITUAL MIND

Romans 8:6-9 (NKJV) For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

A carnal mind is one that is always thinking of the things of the flesh.  “What am I going to wear?”  “What am I going to eat?”  “What am I going to do with this and that?”  A spiritual mind is one that remains fixed on the things of God.  It is thinking, “How can I please God?”  “What things can I do for the kingdom?”  “Who can I be a blessing to?”

You see, to be carnally mined is to be sense-ruled.  To be spiritually minded is to be Spirit-led, and we know that the scripture says that as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the children of God.

Our flesh likes to be like a little dictator, trying to get us to obey its every whim.  It will tell you, “You cannot do that,” or “You cannot be a blessing to that person,” or “You cannot pray.”  But when we make a decision to be spiritually minded, we make statements like, “If God is for me, who can be against me?” and “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.”  You see, the spiritual man does not look to the weaknesses of the flesh, but he looks to the power of the Greater One within us.  Do just like Caleb did in His eighties.  Say, “Give me the mountain!”

There might be mountains in your life today, but you, by the Holy Spirit, can overcome them.  Do not look at the weakness of the flesh, but look to the mighty God who resides within you.  When the flesh says, “You cannot do that!” just shout back, “Just watch and see what God can do through me!”

CONFESSION: I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.  I have the mighty Holy Spirit within me, and I will not be led by my flesh, but by Him who is all-powerful.
