THE GREAT EXCHANGE

Matthew 26:26-28 (NKJV) And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

What Jesus did that evening with His disciples was not for Him, but for us.  He set a new covenant into place.  A covenant is a will, or a contract.  We hold in our hands an Old and New Testament.  This Old Testament was a covenant based on law.  Through Jesus, this New Covenant is set by God’s grace.  Oh, how I love grace more than law!

When Jesus broke this bread and said, “This is my body,” He was saying that all that happened to His body by going to the cross, He did for us.  His body was beaten, whipped, and harmed beyond words, so that our body could be healed and made well.

Look how Isaiah prophesied of this coming One:

Isaiah 53:4-5 (YLT) Surely our sicknesses he hath borne, and our pains–he hath carried them, and we–we have esteemed him plagued, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 And he is pierced for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace is on him, and by his bruise there is healing to us.

Jesus did this all for us with His broken body, and then He said that His blood is for a New Covenant, which is for many for the remission of sin.  Oh, what a great God we serve!  He knew that we could not get rid of our sins, so He put it all on Jesus, and totally forgave us.

As I heard one preacher say, “God took all of our sins, all our badness, the filth of the world, and poured it on Jesus at the cross.  Then God took all of Jesus’ goodness, all His holiness, all His purity, and at the cross poured it on us.”  This, my brothers and sisters, is the Great Exchange.  He took our bad, and we get His good.  What a great God we serve!

CONFESSION:  My Jesus took all of my filth and gave me His purity.  Today, I stand as a blood-bought child of the King.  Today, I am fully cleansed by the blood of Jesus!
