WHY NOT US (PART 5)

1 Corinthians 1:26-31 (MSG) Take a good look, friends, at who you were when you got called into this life. I don’t see many of “the brightest and the best” among you, not many influential, not many from high-society families. 27 Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, 28 chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”? 29 That makes it quite clear that none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God. 30 Everything that we have—right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start—comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. 31 That’s why we have the saying, “If you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God.”

Today, as we wrap up this mini-series on “Why not us,” I want us to look at how the Message Bible brings these verses out.  God looked down from heaven, and He chose us in spite of us.  That is so great, right?  Little old you and me, are chosen by the Great I Am to be a co-partner with Him, to help people, and to share His message of eternal salvation.  God could have just done it Himself, but He chose to work through us to let people see the light.

That is why we can never boast in ourselves, because we know who we are.  We know where we came from, so our boast is always in God.  As we looked at David, Rahab and Joseph these last few days, we could have looked at so many more in the Bible that started off badly, yet God took them on a journey and made something great out of them.

So today, do not put yourself down.  See yourself the way God, your Heavenly Father, sees you, “IN JESUS!”  That is why He sees you blessed, because Jesus is blessed.  That is why He sees you healed, because Jesus is healed.  Start seeing yourself the way God sees you.  Never forget from where you came, and yet, always remember where you are going.  Enjoy the ride!  He brought you this far, and He will get you to the finish line.

CONFESSION:  God, my Father, has gotten me to the starting gate, and I know that He will get me to the finish line.  It is not about me, it is about Christ in me, the hope of glory.
