CLIMBING COMPANIONS

Matthew 5:1-2 (NKJV) And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them

The Beatitudes, or as I like to call them, “Attitudes to be in our lives,” are nine attitudes.  If taken to heart, they can change a person’s life by changing their attitude in life.  Let us take the next few days and let them build within us.

Here we see Jesus, as the crowds were growing, not looking for ways to get a bigger crowd, but to get with His disciples and teach them.  He wanted them to be able to go forth with His words and help others.  I like the way that the Message Bible brings out these two verses:

Matthew 5:1-2 (MSG) When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down 2 and taught his climbing companions.

Those that were committed climbed with Him.  Are you climbing today with Jesus?  Are you getting alone with Him and letting Him look deep within your heart?  Are you letting His words sink deep within you so that when there is a decision to be made, you have His mind in the matter?

This is what it means to be a committed disciple of Jesus Christ.  It is not only listening to His amazing words, but following Him with your life.  It is giving Him your all.  It is giving Him your heart and mind.  This is what it means to take up your cross and follow Him.  As we do this, His blessings are poured out on us.

So many want to know what they will get for following Jesus, but He shows us that is the wrong way to look at it.  It is really what we can give to follow Him.  Jesus asked his disciples, “Will you leave also?”  Peter said, “Where will I go, you have the Word of life” (John 6:67-68).

So today, are you willing to follow Him?  He will take you to some uncharted territories, but the adventure will be great!  When you get to the mountaintop with Him, the view will be amazing!

Confession:  I am a climbing companion of Jesus Christ.  I follow Him and I am listening to His voice today.  When He says to climb a mountain with Him, I will go to hear His words.
