IT IS FINISHED

Matthew 27:50-51 (NKJV) And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split.

John 19:28-30 (NKJV) After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

As Jesus was dying on the cross, at just the right moment, He yielded up His spirit.  He took all of our sins and shouted, “It is finished!”  What was going on?  Well at this moment, the high priest was in the temple killing the lamb for the Passover, and the true Lamb of God was being given for the world.  The high priest took this lamb, killed it, and said, “It is finished,” and Jesus, as He was dying, shouted out these same words.

What amazes me is that when Jesus died, the veil that was in the temple (that separated the presence of God from the people) was torn in two from top to bottom.  The high priest stood there with the lamb in his hand, and this supernatural thing happened, and he could look out from the Holy of Holies. What was going through his mind?  Could he not see that what was happening on Golgotha was happening right there in the temple?

What is this telling us?  The presence of God is not in a temple anymore.  It is not in a place made with human hands.  Now God’s presence is within those who believe on Jesus!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Today we have His Spirit living within us, and Jesus finished everything that the law said had to be fulfilled!  Today is a great day!  Today is the day that He has made for us to live in victory!

CONFESSION:  The Spirit of God lives within me, and greater is He that lives in me than he that is in the world!
