TRUE CHARACTER

Matthew 5:11-12 (NKJV) Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Do you know the old saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going?”  That is the way it is for you and me.  When things get tough, we get tougher.  That is what God is looking for: Committed people, faithful people, people who will stick around even when they are reviled and persecuted, and all kinds of evil is said against them falsely for His sake.

The Bible says that Jesus is going to judge us by our faithfulness. In Matthew 25, Jesus tells a parable about three servants who were given a certain amount of money. The master went off on a journey, and when he returned there was a day of accountability.  Two of the servants were faithful, and the master said to them, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.  Enter into the joy of your lord.” (Matthew 25:21, 23)

The master praised the two for working with His investment, but do you know what the master called the third servant who was not faithful? He was called wicked and lazy.

Your faithfulness in all situations shows your character.  In Luke 16:10 it says, “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.”

So today, we need to make a decision.  Will I follow the will of the Father, or will I try to have my own way?  Will I do it all for God and be found faithful on that day, or will I live my life to fulfill what I want and put God second?  God gives us the ability to choose, and today I say, “Choose God!”  Choose life, and hear Him say on that day, “Well done good and faithful servant!”

Confession:  Today, I want to be faithful even when I am put down, reviled or persecuted.  When people say bad things about me, I am going to forgive and lift them up.  I want to be like my Jesus.  He gave His all and I want to do the same.
